They call them „kagıt toplayıcı“,
which corresponds to English: papercollectors.
They are are young and old, men and women, they need a lot of power and they are barely noticed from society. We are talking about people, who search, collect and sort the trash in Istanbul, which other people throw onto the streets. Daily they trudge themselves up and down the streets with large garbage bags made of a strong material. Day and night they are busy unraveling mountains of waste and searchable using plastic or paper. The garbage collectors are excluded from society but they‘re still essential for the city.
